Pre-release privacy design
Privacy should be architectural, not aspirational.
Drive Flockless is being designed to provide useful navigation without building an account-linked record of where you drive.
Information used for navigation
The app uses your location, destination coordinates, route preferences, and a locally stored camera catalog to calculate and follow a route. Location permission is requested only when a navigation feature needs it.
Routing requests
The ephemeral routing service must receive start and destination coordinates to calculate roads. The production service is intended to disable request-body logging, avoid advertising identifiers, and not create a durable trip-history record.
Apple place search and Standard routes
When you search for a destination in the iPhone app, Drive Flockless uses Apple MapKit's MKLocalSearchservice to return place results, search suggestions as you type, and nearby category results. The search text — including partial text as you type — and location context needed for those results are sent to Apple under Apple's privacy terms. When the self-hosted privacy service is not configured, the app uses MapKit's MKDirections service for the Standard route baseline; that request sends the origin and destination, along with the route preferences needed to calculate roads, to Apple under the same terms. Drive Flockless does not use either Apple request to build a trip history or advertising profile.
Information we do not plan to require
- An account for basic navigation
- Your contacts, photos, microphone, or motion history
- Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking
- Automatic cloud storage of recent trips
Launch updates
If you voluntarily join the TestFlight or launch list, your email address will be stored separately from navigation systems. You can request deletion by emailing privacy@driveflockless.com.
Public camera data
Camera locations may come from OpenStreetMap, DeFlock, government records, and other public contributors. Coverage can be incomplete, outdated, or imprecise. Source and confidence information is preserved whenever practical.
